My Kirkpatrick family: Ireland to America

I remember growing up and hearing that my family came from Ireland but that was about all I knew. I didn't get very involved until 2004 when I heard from my cousin Dan. I was able to find several other cousins that told me the story of my family as they believed it was and I started looking into my ancestors based on this information. And so their story starts with:

My great, great-grandfather, Alexander Kirkpatrick, born around 1800 in Cork, Ireland, marries Susanne Nimmo, about 1830 in Ireland. They have three children:

• James Henry born August 12, 1830 in Northern, Ireland
  
• Mary born August 4, 1831 in Northern, Ireland
  
• Thomas, my great grandfather and my direct descendent, was born February 18, 1835 in Antrim, Ireland. He marries Margaret Cowper.

After doing a lot of research, the story of my family expanded quite a bit and I found many errors and omissions in the origianl story. The biggest surprise came from my cousin Dan (a descendent of James Henry Kirkpatrick). He dropped this blockbuster news that my direct descendent, Thomas Kirkpatrick, was born out of wedlock. (it apperas that both parents were not married to each other). Thomas's death certificate seems to confirm this since his parents are listed as "unknown". This is a huge mysterty that I have been trying to solve ever since I got the news from Dan.

They have five children:

• 3b) Arthur Kilpatrick - Baptism: Aug 24, 1803, Drumhome, Co Donegal, Ireland
• 3d) Anne (Mary Jane) Kilpatrick - Baptism: May 3, 1807, Drumhome, Co Donegal, Ireland
• 3e) Andrew Kilpatrick - Baptism: Oct 29, 1809, Drumhome, Co Donegal, Ireland

  He marries two times:

  a) 1st marriage to Margaret Brewster on Dec 8, 1834, Co Mayo.

  ***** Interesting that witnesses are Thomas Browne & John Kirkpatrick. Also find a strong connection of the Kirkpatrick family with the Brewster Family:
  1) Elizabeth Kirkpatrick baptism Nov 13, 1837, Oughaval Coft Parish, Co Mayo, Church of Ireland - She marries Andrew Brewster on March 4,1867. They have two daughter:

  a) Susannah Brewster, Born Jun 23,1868, Islandeady District, Co Mayo, Ireland
  b) Anna Maria Brewster, Born Dec 4,1874, Islandeady District, Co Mayo, Ireland

  2) Sarah Kirkpatrick (1815-1902) marries Alexander Brewster (1815-1862). Alexander is the brother of Andrew Brewster. Still trying to determine who are Sarah Kirkpatrick's parents
  They have four children: George Brewster, Robert Brewster, John Brewster, and Julia Brewster Duncan.

  Alexander at age 47 signs with the 21st Missiouri Infantry during the Civil War - Two months Later He dies at Battle of Shiloh. His widow Sarah, was successful in 1864 in getting a $6 per month pension to help support their four children. *****

  Baptism: March 1, 1805, Drumhome Parish, County Donegal, Church of Ireland.
  He married Susanna Nimmo, born abt 1803, Dec 25, 1821, Benburb, County Tyrone (7.5 miles from Armagh where Susanna was likely born), Ireland.

  Note: The marriage cetificate has their names as Alexander Killpatrick & Shusanna Nimo. And that is why it took me so many years to locate.

  He marries Jane Ballintine, April 25, 1849, Co Armagh.

  1) William Nimmo marries Ellen Ballentine, April 12, 1849 Co Armagh. (One of the witnesses is Alexander Kilpatrick, so probably Alexander Kilpatrick and William Nimmo were very close friends).
  2) William Nimmo, born Dec 25, 1822, Co Armagh. His parents are Charles Nimmo & Elizabeth ?
  3) Also found two other sons of Charles Nimmo & Elizabeth:
  a) Alexander Nimmo, born Jun 29, 1816, Co Armagh
  b) John Nimmo, born Jun 29, 1816, Co Armagh)

  He immigrated to the USA in 1848. He marries Elizabeth Lawson, 1851, St. John Epiisocpil Church, Kingstown, NY. - They have seven children:

  1) John W. Kirkpatrick, born June 1853. Marries Charlotte Mastin. They have four children:

  1a) Charles Williard Kirkpatrick (1889-1964). He marries Mary E. Butler (1893-1977)
  1b) George Dewey Kirkpatrick (1898-1996). He marries Charlotte L.
  1c) Lulu Kirkpatrick 1886
  1d) Stella Kirkpatrick (1896-1992)

  4) Alexander J. Kirkpatrick (1854-1920) marries Elizabeth Emma Nimmo, born 1858. This is a interesting connection to the Nimmo family. I have to do more research.

  7) Susan Viola Kirkpatrick Suitterlein (1868-1927). She marries Frank Sutterlein

• Catherine "Kate" Kirkpatrick, born April 8, 1827, Oughaval Coft Parish, Co Mayo, Church of Ireland
  She comes to NYC, USA with sister Mary, Nov 22, 1847 on Ship Nebraska

  This next section I still have to prove:

  ***** She died Oct 20, 1910 - Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. - Marries Richard M Mooney in 1855 and was the mother of Alexander Mooney, born about 1856. She is listed at being 83 at death which makes her birth in 1827 but her parents are listed as Alexander Kirkpatrick and Susan Brown. If you look below, you will see that I found two other Alexander Kirkpatrick's born about the same time in the same location Co Mayo, Ireland. I believe that Alexander married a 2nd time to Jane Bole and she might be the mother of Thomas Kirkpatrick, my great grandfather but still trying to confirm that. And as for Susan Brown(e) being Kat's mother, that seems unlikely, since they were married in 1836. But I think it is possible that Alexander divorced Susanna Nimmo and she later remarried to a Browne and they later remarried. Of course, still trying to prove that. Having a hard time contacting the Mooney family *****.

• Mary Kirkpatrick, born April 22, 1829, Oughaval Coft Parish, Co Mayo, Church of Ireland
  She comes to NYC, USA with sister Kate, Nov 22, 1847 on Ship Nebraska

  Mary dies by suicide Aug 4, 1856 in Cleveland, Ohio - This article is a complete surprises to me and first I knew that Mary had married and divorced and left a four or five year old son.I found some records that lead me to believe that Mary's son was named Joseph Kirkpatrick but can't prove that yet.

• James Henry Kirkparick born August 12, 1830 in Armagh, Ireland. Baptism: Nov 11, 1831, Carndonagh Parish, County Donegal, Presbyterian religion
  He marries Martha Newton, born 2/12/1838 Armagh, Ireland. They go briefly to Canada for about a year and settle in Cleveland, Ohio (Lakewood) and have nine children.James's death certificate that has his parents as Alexander Kirkpatrick & Susanna Nimmo
• Margaret Kirkpatrick baptism Mar 11, 1832, Oughaval Coft Parish, Co Mayo, Church of Ireland - I haven't been able to find much on her but suspect that she stayed in Ireland with Alexander
• Elizabeth Kirkpatrick baptism Nov 13, 1837, Oughaval Coft Parish, Co Mayo, Church of Ireland - She marries Andrew Brewster on March 4,1867. They have two daughter:

  a) Susannah Brewster, Born Jun 23,1868, Islandeady District, Co Mayo, Ireland
  b) Anna Maria Brewster, Born Dec 4,1874, Islandeady District, Co Mayo, Ireland

• Eliza Kirkpatrick, born Dec 11, 1836, Oughaval Coft Parish, County Mayo, marries William Hanberry(Hanbury) (1832-1898) on Feb 11, 1856, in Co Mayo.

  They have eight children: - This is an interesting part of the Kirkpatrick Line. I was able to connect with several cousins to connect Kirkpatrick's with Canada, current Ireland, UK, and Australia

  a) Catherine "Kittie" Kirkpatrick Calhoun, b May 4, 1898, Co Mayo, marries James Calhoun on Sept 19, 1931 - (They have two children: Richard Calhoun & William David Calhoun (1940-2015). Both born in Highland Park, MI)
  b) Elizabeth Kirkpatrick - (b Oct 12, 1898, Co Mayo. Died 1973 in MI USA).
  c) Sarah Kirkpatrick - b Sept 8,1900, Co Mayo. Died Sept 15, 1977 in Canada

  On July 17, 2022, I hear from John William Snell the son of William James Snell & Frances Kirkpatrick. John was born in 1946 in London
  g) Mary "Molly" Kirkpatrick - b Mar 2, 1910, Co Mayo. Died June 6, 1997 Ireland.
  Mary married Edward "Leo" Tuohey on Mar 8, 1945 - Mary is a link to a huge family of Kirkpatrick's in Ireland
  h) Richard Kirkpatrick - b Apr 14, 1912, Co Mayo, died in 1977

  - Charlotte Sabatka Gear - she marries Barry F. Gear on June 28, 1951

  Jessie's 2nd marriage is to William John Weaver on Oct 13, 1915 - They had four children:

  a) William "Billy" Weaver - Born 1920, died in 1929 after he was struck by a car
  b) Corwin "Jack" Weaver - born 1929. Can't find any information about him.
  c) John William Weaver - born Sept 30, 1930. He died April 16, 2008
  He marries Marie Glaw and had three children. They had major problems in their marriage and were divorced. John may have had a affair with Stella that produced my cousin Kim.
  d)Ronald Sheldon Weaver - Born Nov 15, 1932. He dies Aug 26, 1979 He was killed in the hallway at 3604 Prospect Ave from a shotgun wound to his abdomen.

  
  1b) My Uncle - John Kirkpatrick Jr., born March 10, 1894 Cleve, Oh; died Jan 2, 1970 Cleve, Ohio (Lakeview)

  John marries three times:

  1) 1st marriage to Bernice Stevick on May 14, 1915

  They have 1 child - Delwood, born Mar 30, 1916 but dies on July 9, 1928 from a accidential drowning - Highland

  They have a bitter divorce on June 14, 1919. - Bernice claims John, during their marriage, was arrested twice for stealing and during their marriage, assualed, beat, struck, and injured her at least once each week. - Divorce is granted on July 9, 1919.

  Bernice remarries on May 3, 1921 to Max Diamond
  They have son Leonard Diamond on July 20, 1923. He is killed tragically by a car hitting him on May 30, 1926.

  2) 2nd marriage to Iona Schaffer Huth on March 22, 1921. By Dec 14, 1928, John files for divorce, claiming that Iona has been willfully absent for more than three years. John is granted a divorce on May 9, 1929.

  3) John marries a 3rd time to Roasalind "Rose" Muccino - born July 4, 1903; Dies April 3, 1983 - Lakeview.

  I did a Big Y-700 Y-DNA Test - to discover and verify my dierect potential ancestery. I got 8 matches that are estimated to share a common paternal line ancestor, who was, with a 95% probability that we are related. Was not able to verify any matches yet:

  b)Betty Jane Alexander, B: Aug 41928; dies Sept 29, 2003.
